Dave Brown

So this is Dave Brown. A very handsome looking doggie. I was asked to do this for a colleague's mother for her birthday, he took me about 15 hours and is created using Neocolor 2 wax crayons.

He is a lovely looking dog with a face full of personality, which I apparently captured perfectly.

A little about the Artist

Cat Dalling has been painting and drawing since as far back as she can remember (and that is a very long time). Whilst she does specialise in portraits of both animals and people she does sometimes wander into the realms of fantasy and there are a few dragons hanging on walls around the country to attest to that.

'That's not a Paintbrush' is a collection of thoughts and pictures that go to make up what Cat is about. The phrase itself comes from many a conversation with an artist friend of hers, who still cannot believe she can create anything with a brush with only four bristles, and is frequently seen waving a 2" brush at Cat and going 'This is a paintbrush'.

Being a pet portrait artist can be difficult, she works from photographs as her subjects don't seem to like to sit still for very long and this has it's own problems. She likes to have as many photos as she can of the subject with a general idea of how the owner wants the animal to be posed.

People are usually done from photographs too as with busy lives it is not always possible for them to spend the time sitting, plus in many cases the painting is for a surprise and having them sit there might give it away!
